Storytelling is an incredibly powerful tool. Sharing our lived experiences with each other in the form of stories has the ability to change and grow everyday events into lessons that reach beyond the storytellers’ personal experience and connect us together into a community. Life and - is a storytelling podcast centered on first-person, true experiences, created in partnership between the Luzerne Medical Societies, Scranton Fringe & Park Multimedia. Each episode features different storytellers telling their experiences, in their own words, as well as an engaging conversation between the storyteller and our host, Tonyehn Verkitus!
This season, we turn our spotlight onto a seemingly joyful, albeit very complex theme - celebration!
In this episode, we are thrilled to feature Amber Viola!
Amber Viola graduated from North Pocono high school and enlisted in the United States Navy, serving honorably for eight years. While in the military, she advanced to the rank of Gunner’s Mate Second Class and was a Naval Military Training Instructor and a Department of Defense Victim Advocate. While serving as a Victim Advocate, Amber realized that she wanted to spend her life serving people and her community. She received her bachelor's degree in social work from Marywood University and is currently working towards her master's degree. Amber served as the Human Resources Director for the city of Scranton and sits on multiple boards. She is the Commander of the Gouldsboro American Legion and a mother to five-year-old Jacquelyn Viola. She is a community activist and an advocate for those who cannot advocate for themselves. Please note this episode discusses intimate health concerns including antenatal care.
